Juliet and I had this idea at pretty much the same time. While we shot [link] we were captivated by the cool stuff that was happeneing around the rest of the room. So she stood in the middle, I pointed the projector at her, set a brush to rapidly change hue and started chasing the ball as she moved it around her body. The room quickly exploded in to a dizzying array of speeding colour.
Like playing with a coloured torch when you're a kid. But now you have ten thousand friends over.
The photos are secondary to the experience here. This is like taking a photograph of a roller-coaster.
Sidenote: the room here is my "playroom". It's a photography studio, a painting space, a meeting room, a cinema, a party venue and above all else a space-ship simulator. So s'cuse the mess!
OK, I see video here, not photography. So much motion, just as you describe it. Imagine dancers and performers inhabiting this roiling mass of darkness and colored light.
I see a live, interactive exhibition. Or for that matter, a game.
What if we dress a model in a skin-tight silver sequin body suit and put them in a dark room with a loosely-focussed black screen projected on to them... then someone stands behind a desk with a tablet linked to the computer/projector... and run a full-screen touch-sensative "firefly" application where the cursor is a sparkling, winged bug leaving long, multi-coloured trails in its flight path? Then the model runs around the "set" while you and your bug chase her. It's like a living arcade video game played out in 3-D space to your controls.. and every time you "score", the room bursts in to colour. I just need to figure out how to include sound.
